The key to the perfect finish is in the preparation, so take your time now, follow these simple steps, and you’ll be rewarded with a gorgeous new look. Start by ensuring all surfaces to be varnished are sound, dry, clean and free from dust and grease. Any nail or screw heads in joinery should be set below the surface and concealed by a suitable wood filler. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. BARE OR NEW WOOD: If the wood is an oily hardwood or resinous soft wood, wipe down well with White Spirit to remove natural oils. Sand along the grain to a smooth surface then remove dust. PREVIOUSLY WOODSTAINED SURFACES: Rub down with fine waterproof abrasive paper and mild soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly. PREVIOUSLY PAINTED WOOD: Use an appropriate Paint and Varnish Stripper to remove all traces of paint then treat as for bare or new wood.

APPLICATION

Now for the fun bit! For the best results, stir well before use and apply using a brush. Work the varnish along the grain and avoid overlapping the brush strokes. Apply 3 coats to bare or new wood, or 2 coats to previously stained surfaces allowing 4 hours between coats. Use only glass or plastic containers to hold Interior Varnish and avoid contact with ferrous metals whilst wet. Do not apply at temperatures below 10ºC. The final colour and finish achieved depends on the original colour of the wood and the number of coats applied. It is advisable to test for colour in an inconspicuous area first.

CLEANING

Once you have completed painting, remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning immediately in warm soapy water and then rinse thoroughly.
